Daghestan has lowest forestation level in Southern Federal District

Makhachkala, May 14, 2013. Daghestan forestry occupies 528,000 hectares; that is 10.6% Daghestan’s area. As to the Committee on Forestry’s press service, this is the lowest forestation rate among republics of the Southern Federal District. In this regard, the Committee focuses on planting seedlings and sowing seeds.

This spring, reforestation was planned on 383 hectares, including seeding and planting on 371 hectares and combined reforestation on 12 hectares, as well as protective afforestation on 200 hectares. To date, the 2013 spring plan for reforestation and afforestation has been fulfilled.

Also, there’s the "Forest Planting Day" Russian Campaign underway until May 18, which has been declared the Russian forest day.

As the source said, during the campaign, 4 hectares have been planted with 3,500 trees and shrubs of different species; alleys, mini-parks, squares, and areas near monuments and obelisks to soldiers of the Great Patriotic War have been landscaped in Daghestan towns and villages.
