Trial on the case of Editor-in-Chief of “Tolyshi Sado” newspaper in Azerbaijan deferred till July, 3

Trial on the case of Editor-in-Chief of newspaper “Tolyshi Sado” (“Voice of Talysh") Galil Mamedov accused of high treason, fomentation of inter-ethnic animosity and illegal drug trafficking was deferred for the reason of absence of the witnesses for the prosecution. The trial is appointed at 11:00, July, 3.

It should be noted that hearing the evidence of witnesses from among the police personnel was expected to be continued at today’s session.

“Two lieutenant colonels of police who participated in Galil Mamedov’s detention have already given evidence. Violation of procedural regulations by them became obvious from what they said”, lawyer Anar Gasymov explained to the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent.

According to him, after detention Galil Mamedov was not provided with an attorney. Besides, the police officers who detained Mamedov also participated in search of his house although there was no such necessity, Gasymov added.

Earlier, the “Caucasian Knot” reported that Galil Mamedov was detained in Baku, on June, 21, 2012. He is accused of high treason, fomentation of inter-ethnic animosity and illegal storage of drugs. Mamedov’s prosecution was condemned by International Federation for human rights and Frontline Defenders, international foundation for protection of persons who stand up for human rights.
