Public Chamber of Dagestan recommends federal examination of Samur Waterpipe project

In Makhachkala, the Dagestani Public Chamber has held public hearings "Impact of water intake from Samur Valley on ecology of Samur Nature Complex".

A report on water extraction from the district and the construction of water intake structures was made by Saday Agametov, the chief hydrologist of the Open Joint-Stock Company (OJSC) "Dagestangeologiya", who stated that the concerns of local residents about the drying of the forests and springs were groundless. However, local residents have objected that, despite the assurances moved by governmental ecologists, local springs get dry even now; therefore, they are strongly oppose to further drilling.

The final resolution of the hearings will be ready next week, Vagab Kazibekov, a member of the Public Chamber of Dagestan, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"Personally, I insist that those recommendations, which deal with control over some processes, shall include a demand that activists of public institutions take part in this control," said Vagab Kazibekov.

The residents of the Samur area were satisfied with the hearings, Magomedanifa Beibutov, a Deputy of the Magaramkent District Assembly, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
