PACE President Received Dinara Yunus and Urged Baku to Respect Human Rights
The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), Anne Brasseur expressed concern about the situation in Azerbaijan in the field of human rights.
"I am seriously concerned about the deteriorating situation in Azerbaijan's human rights and once again urge the authorities to respect their obligations," she wrote in her micro blog on Twitter.
She also reported on her meeting with Dinara Yunus, the daughter of the activists Arif and Leyla Yunus arrested in Azerbaijan.
On January 27, the Council of Europe held a hearing on the topic: "Attacks on the Press in Azerbaijan", which was also addressed by the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Nils Muiznieks. He also expressed concern over the deteriorating human rights situation in Azerbaijan.
According to him, in Azerbaijan there is pressure on human rights defenders working with the Council of Europe. "This is revenge for cooperation with the Council of Europe, so this is directly a problem of the Council of Europe," said Muiznieks.
