Azerbaijan: prosecutor asks four years in prison for PFPA activist Babaev

On September 27, in the course of debates, the state prosecutor asked to find Dayanat Babaev, an activist of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), guilty of hooliganism and sentence him to four years in prison, despite the fact that the victim in the case had recalled his application. The advocates and the defendant himself insist on his acquittal.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Dayanat Babaev was arrested on suspicion of disorderly conduct on November 24, 2012. According to the investigation, on November 7, 2012, in Baku, Babaev, acting jointly with Rakhim Musaev, another PFPA activist, being drunk, insulted a certain Tofig Salimov and inflicted minor bodily injuries to him.

Babaev believes that his prosecution has to do with his oppositional activities and his participation in protest actions.

The sentencing is scheduled for September 30.
