Prosecutor suggested sentencing blogger Ramazanov to 10 years in prison

On Wednesday at the trial in the Baku Court of Grave Crimes on the case of the blogger Rashad Ramazanov the prosecutor offered to sentence him to 10 years in prison.

The final word for the defense is scheduled for November 13.

Ramazanov is charged under Article 234.4.3 (illegal possession and sale of drugs on a large scale ) of the Criminal Code , the maximum penalty for which is 12 years ' imprisonment.

He was arrested on May 9 at the metro station 20 January. According to police, at Ramazanov they found 9 grams of heroin. However, Ramazanov denied the accusation , saying that the drugs were planted on political grounds. The blogger is known for sharp criticism of the Azerbaijani authorities on Facebook.

Called Agaaddin on his page on Facebook (Rashad Hegiget Agaaddin), he wrote articles and expressed opinions on the themes of religion, freedom and justice.

In particular, he spoke ironically about the candidacy of Ilham Aliyev to the presidency for the third time, and said that he probably wants to get into the Guinness Book of Records.

He calls the Azerbaijani authorities 'diabolical Aliyev regime."

It is noteworthy that after his arrest for 10 days, in violation of the law, he was kept in the Organized Criminality Department of Interior Ministry, and only after the intervention of human rights activists and the press he was transferred to the detention center of the Prison Service.
