National Council demands immediate release of young activists

The National Council of Democratic Forces demanded immediate release of Ulvi Hasanly, head of the social network service of the National Council Executive Apparatus, and two other youth activists Mejid Marjanly and Kanan Gasymly, who were arrested yesterday.

The National Council statement expressed concern about the authorities' repressions against the NIDA activists.

"The arrests on the eve of the presidential elections show that the elections will be conducted in the anti-democratic environment."

The arrests of the young activists show the authorities' intention to intimidate young people and prevent their political activity.

"The National Council has urged the Azerbaijani authorities to stop the politically motivated arrests of their opponents and immediately release the arrested," reads the statement.
