Trial in case of riots in Ismailly to be held in Shaki

On November 4, the Shaki Court of Grave Crimes of Azerbaijan is to hold the preliminary court session in the case against the persons accused of organizing riots in the town of Ismailly. This was reported by advocate Neimat Kerimli.

The defendants are Ilgar Mamedov, the leader of the civil movement "Republican Alternative" (Real), Tofiq Yagublu, the deputy head of the "Musavat" Party, and 18 residents of Ismailly District. They were charged of organizing mass riots and rendering resistance to power agents.

The trial chaired by Judge Rashid Guseinov will be conducted at the Shaki Court of Grave Crimes, since the Ismailly District is under the jurisdiction of the Court. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Neimat Kerimli, the advocate of Tofiq Yagublu.

The advocate has claimed that the charge against his client is groundless.

"Tofiq Yagublu visited Ismailly on the next day after the riots on a business trip on the edition task of the newspaper 'Yeni Musavat', where he was employed as an observer. He did nothing illegal," Neimat Kerimli has said.

Khalid Bagirov, the advocate of Ilgar Mamedov, also believes his client is not guilty and treats the case as politically motivated.

Let us remind you that on February 14, the European Union called to release Ilgar Mamedov and Tofiq Yagublu, the deputy head of the "Musavat" Party, detained in the same case.
