Azerbaijani authorities violate four articles of European Convention of Human Rights with regard to Parviz Gashimli, his advocate asserts

The arrest of Parviz Gashimli, an Azerbaijani journalist and human rights defender, will be challenged at the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR). This was reported by Elchin Sadygov, an advocate of Parviz Gashimli.

Let us remind you that on September 17, Parviz Gashimli, a staff member of the independent newspaper "Bizim Yol" (Our Way) and Director of the website "moderator.az", was detained on charges with smuggling and arms trafficking. Parviz Gashimli treats the charges as groundless and politically motivated.

The arrest of Parviz Gashimli and searches at his working places and at his home were unlawful. This was told by advocate Elchin Sadygov in his interview to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"After his arrest, he was questioned in absence of his trusted advocate. We appealed that decision at the Court of Appeal; however, the pre-trial restriction measure has not been changed. And on November 7, the court absolutely unreasonably extended the arrest for other three months," the advocate has stated.

According to Elchin Sadygov, the searches at the Parviz Gashimli's places were also carried out with gross procedural violations.

Elchin Sadygov has stated that on the next days, a complaint will be sent in a special letter to the ECtHR in Strasbourg. However, the advocate has not specified the date, on which the complaint will be sent.
