Dagestan will start reconstructing a section of the Avaro-Kakhetinskaya road from Khebda (Shamilsky District) to the Georgian border, Zagid Khuchbarov, the head of Dagestanavtodor, said yesterday, Interfax reports.

The Makhachkala-Tbilisi road is 470km long. 35 billion rubles will be financed within the framework of Russia’s South Program. Digging will start on August 1.

Asphalt will be laid at the 60th kilometer of the road on July 10.

The project involves the Shamilsky, Tsuntinsky and Tlyaratinsky districts and the Bezhtinsky Administrative Sector. It is 83km long. 25 bridges and 5 tunnels will be reconstructed.

The Avaro-Kakhetinskaya road connects with Georgia and the ports of the Black Sea.
