Georgia and Azerbaijan to Determine Prospects of Bilateral Relations

Georgia and Azerbaijan will determine the prospects of development of bilateral relations, as reflected in the joint declaration of the heads of the two countries, signed on November 5 in Tbilisi during the official visit of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

During the visit, there was a meeting one on one with the President of Georgia Giorgi Margvelashvili as well as in the extended format.

Following the visit, the sides signed a joint declaration. The text of the declaration is not published.

"At the meeting we talked about uniting our strategic cooperation. The meeting also exchanged views on cooperation, uniting the Caspian and Black Seas. We also talked about transportation projects, projects related to the energy corridor, and the deepening cooperation in this field. We signed a joint declaration, which, in turn, will contribute to the expansion of our relations in the field of security, economy, trade, transit, and culture," the President of Georgia Giorgi Margvelashvili said during the joint press conference.

"The joint declaration signed today defines the prospects of development of our relations. The basis of our relations is unity between the two nations, our shared history and brotherhood. The declaration reflects very specific provisions on the prospects of development," said President Ilham Aliyev.

He noted that the Declaration also reflects a very accurate expression related to the settlement of conflicts. "All conflicts, including the conflicts that occurred on the territory of Georgia and Azerbaijan should find a solution within the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the countries and the inviolability of their borders. They must be resolved on the basis of the decisions and resolutions of international organizations," he said.

They also discussed issues of development of bilateral economic relations, investment, energy and transport. "We have once again expressed our will: these issues, these projects should be implemented soon. In particular, the Southern Gas Corridor, which is now being successfully implemented. Of course, a joint activity of Azerbaijan and Georgia, our common position in the future will show greater reliability of this corridor," Aliyev stressed.
