Arzu Abdullayeva Receives Prestigious International Award

On November 19, 2015 the Netherlands Helsinki Committee launched the Helsinki Civil Society Award to support the work of prominent activists and organisations that base their activities on, and contribute to the legacy of, the Helsinki Principles.

"We congratulate Arzu Abdullayeva from Azerbaijan and Andrey Yurov from Russia as the Laureates of the Inaugural Helsinki Civil Society Award!” the Netherlands Helsinki Committee said.

Arzu Abdullayeva made a significant contribution to multi-track diplomacy efforts, building trust across the conflict divide in the protracted conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh, and contributing to human rights protection in Azerbaijan.

Andrey Yurov has made continuing efforts to perform solidarity campaigning and organise monitoring missions in situations of gross human rights violations across the OSCE area, including in Georgia, Kyrgyzstan and Ukraine.

"We are proud to celebrate the efforts of these distinguished leaders who have ardently committed themselves to the pursuit of just, rights-based societies,” the Netherlands Helsinki Committee stated.
