Makhachkala mayor detained on suspicion on organising murder of SK officer

MOSCOW, June 1 (Itar-Tass) - Makhachkala Mayor Sayid Amirov has been detained for suspicion on organising the murder of an officer of the Investigation Committee (SK), SK spokesman Vladimir Markin told Itar-Tass on Saturday.

“At present, Amirov has been detained and convoyed to Moscow,” Markin said.

“His implication in the crime and his detention were the result of the meticulously planned, thorough and professional work of SK investigators and FSB officers,” Markin said.

“Another 10 accomplices have been detained. Investigators check their involvement in committing grave and high crimes on the territory of the republic,” the spokesman said.

“The crime will be investigated by the Main Investigation Directorate of the Russian Investigation Committee in compliance with the norms of the Criminal Code of Russia,” Markin said.

In 1991-1998 Amirov was deputy prime minister of Dagestan. In February 1998 he was elected the head of Makhachakala’s administration.

SK officer Arsen Gadzhibekov was killed in Kaspiisk on December 14, 2011. An unknown opened fire when Gadzhibekov went out of his car and made for home. Criminals ran the crime scene.
