Nuriev: low-level officials only are made accountable for corruption in Azerbaijan
As stated by Alimamed Nuriev, the head of the research fund "Constitution", engaged in corruption issues, mainly low-level officials are brought to criminal liability for corruption in Azerbaijan.
In his turn, Vyusal Guseinov, the secretary of the commission to fight corruption, asserts that in recent years Azerbaijani authorities have made significant progress in terms of addressing the corruption problems.
In his opinion, the opening of ASAN fast service centres in Azerbaijan has contributed to corruption reduction.
Indeed, as confirmed by Alimamed Nuriev, the ASAN service has eliminated opportunities for bribery in a number of areas.
However, as he added, in Azerbaijan mainly low-level rarely medium-level officials are brought to criminal liability for corruption offences.
"However, we don't see any investigations into such types of corruption as laundering of 'dirty money', conflict of interests and abuse of influence. The practice of bribing banks for granting loans and frauds in housing construction continues," said Nuriev.
