Russian expert says Caspian states should join efforts to save environment
On the verge of International Sea Day, which will be marked on September 23, a video conference devoted to the environment of the Caspian Sea was held. Experts from Moscow, Baku and Astana took part in the conference.
Russian expert, member of the Oceanology Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences Vasily Spiridonov, who also took part in the event, believes that the Caspian states should join their efforts to protect the environment in the region.
According to the scientist, international cooperation is essential for successful protection of the Caspian Sea's environment, but the countries of the region seem reluctant to work together in this field.
Russia successfully cooperates with Norway in the sphere of protection of the environment and it should use this experience in the Caspian region, Spiridonov believes.
"We managed to establish cooperation with Norway, but in the Caspian region we are unfortunately less successful," he said.
