Ministry of Sports of Krasnodar Territory promises 2 million roubles to each local Sochi Olympic Champion

The Krasnodar Territorial Ministry of Physical Culture and Sports has announced the amount of prize money for any local athlete who will win at the Winter Olympics in Sochi. Apart from the promised 4 million roubles from the Russia's federal budget, a local Olympic Champion will receive 2 million roubles from the territorial treasury.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 23 the Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev signed a decree that establishes the following remuneration for the Russian participants of the Winter Olympics: 4 million roubles – for the Gold Medal; 2.5 million roubles – for the Silver Medal and 1.7 million roubles – for the Bronze Medal.

On November 26, the above Ministry of the Krasnodar Territory approved its Olympic "surcharges" for the local Olympic medal-winners to be paid from the territorial budget: 2 million, 1.5 million and 1 million roubles for the Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals, accordingly.

The places from the 4th to the 8th will bring 500,000 roubles to each of local athletes; other participants will receive 250,000 roubles each. Same amounts of prize money will be paid out to athletes' coaches, the Ministry's website reports.
