In Azerbaijan, human rights defenders prepare to submit list of political prisoners to PACE Co-Rapporteurs

 
On January 21-23, Co-Rapporteurs of the PACE Monitoring Committee will visit Azerbaijan to assess how the country fulfils its obligations to the Council of Europe. Local human rights defenders are preparing to submit a list of Azerbaijani political prisoners at the meeting with the PACE Co-Rapporteurs.

Azerbaijan will be visited by PACE Co-Rapporteurs Pedro Agramunt Font de Mora (Spain) and Joseph Debono Gresh (Malta). This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by a staff member of the Baku Office of the Council of Europe.

During the visit, the PACE Co-Rapporteurs are to meet Ramiz Mekhdiev, the head of the administration of the Azerbaijani President, Zakir Garalov, General Prosecutor, Fikret Mamedov, Minister of Justice, members of the parliamentary parties and extra-parliamentary opposition, and NGO activists.

On January 22, the Co-Rapporteurs are to visit the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic, where they are to meet its leader Vasif Talybov and officials from the local authorities.

In the evening of January 23, Baku is to hold the press conference following the visit of PACE Co-Rapporteurs.
