Today, Prosecutor to Suggest Punishment for Rasul Jafarov

On the trial of the human rights activist Rasul Jafarov documents were examined on April 9. The defense's request to summon the expert, who gave an opinion on Jafarov’s embezzlement of funds and tax evasion, has not been satisfied.
In turn, the defense presented numerous financial documents to refute the charges on misappropriation. These documents confirm the targeted use of grants.
Next Jafarov testified and rejected all the accusations once more. He said that the Ministry of Justice refused to register the Human Rights Club he headed and, in this regard, a complaint was filed with the European Court of Human Rights.
On the other hand, the activity of NGOs without state registration is not illegal. This was repeatedly stated by the head of the Council of State Support to NGOs Azay Guliyev. The defense presented the electronic record of Guliyev’s speech.
Due to the fact that the Human Rights Club headed by Jafarov acted without registration, he received grants as an individual. At the same time, in the legislation before February 2014 there was no rule on the registration of grants received by individuals.
Jafarov also rejected all other charges. After that the judge announced the completion of the trial.
The prosecutor said he was ready for the final performance.
The judge adjourned the trial and appointed the prosecutor’s speech at 14:00.
