The hunger strike at the headquarters of "Musavat" demanding the release of political prisoners


On Tuesday at the headquarters of the party "Musavat"  began a hunger strike to demand the release of political prisoners. According to Deputy Chairman of "Musavat", Elman Fattah, the event  was  held at the initiative of the party, and is of unlimited duration and also covers parts of the country. Currently, five people in Baku and one in Masalli region are involved in the  hunger strike.

"On May 14 the number of hunger strike participants will reach 10 people. The number of people wanting to join the strike is more.  Therefore, we are now busy looking for more spacious premises for the action. The hunger strike is open-ended in nature and cover all regions of the country,"said Fattah.

According to him, "Musavat" supports a list of political prisoners, based on a list of human rights defenders, currently arrested Rasul Jafarov and Leyla Yunus, which includes today more than 80 political prisoners.

Currently in jails  are three deputy chairmen "Musavat" - Tofig Yagublu, Yadigar Sadigov and Faraj Kerimli, party activists  Taleh Khasmamedov (Goychay branch of "Musavat"), and Khagani Mammadov (Tartar branch of "Musavat").

On May 14 at the headquarters of "Musavat" was held a press conference of the party leadership dedicated to the socio-political situation in the country, and the meeting of the authorities with political parties  scheduled for  May 15.
