European Games come to end

 

On Sunday the 1^st European Games in Baku will finish. On the last 17th day of competitions were played nine sets of medals. Although Azerbaijani athletes  on this only day of the Games  have not won any  award, but in the medal standings, Azerbaijan  ranks the second.

Total Azerbaijani sportsmen won 56 medals, including 21 gold, 15 silver, and 20 bronze.

First ranks Russia with  64 medals (79-40-45), and third comes the United Kingdom, which has 47 medals (10.19.18.)

President of the European Olympic Committee (EOC) Patrick called the European Games in Baku "grand in all respects." "Everything was completed successful," said Hickey at a press conference in Baku on Sunday.

 "In the future, we will hold the European Games in accordance with the standards of "Baku 2015," said Hickey.

The European Olympic Committee intends to put forward a proposal that the next European Games torch was lit  in Azerbaijan.

Late in the evening of  28 June will be held the closing ceremony of the Games.
