Court Found Violation of Tofig Yagublu’s Rights
The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) today announced its decision on the complaint of the deputy head of the party Musavat Tofig Yagublu.
The lawyer Nemat Karimli told Turan the ECtHR found a violation of the rights of Yagublu under Article 5.1 (right to liberty) and ordered to pay him compensation of 24 000 euros.
Yagublu was arrested 10 days after the Ismayilli events of January 23, 2013, when the locals burned a hotel owned by the son of the then Labor Minister Fizuli Alekperov.
The cause of the accident was that the hotel manager was completely drunk and insulted the locals.
International organizations recognize Yagublu "prisoner of conscience".
