The prosecutor's office intends to extend Anar Mammadov’s detention

Prosecutor's Office intends to extend the arrest of Anar Mammadov, the head of the Election Monitoring and Democratic Studies Center(EMDC). Corresponding representation prosecutor’s office will be considered in the Nasimi District Court on March 6, Turan was told by a lawyer, Elchin Sadigov. He considers unreasonable the detention of Mammadov and a lawsuit against him.
Anar Mammadov was arrested on December 16, 2013 on charges of illegal business , tax evasion , abuse of office. Court sanctioned his arrest for three months. International human rights organization Amnesty International has recognized Mammadov "prisoner of conscience." Another human rights defending organization Front Line Defenders included Mammadov in the list of 12 defenders for the defense of which was launched a campaign dedicated to the Olympic Games in Sochi.
The real reason for the arrest of Mammadov is exposing the fraud by authorities during the presidential elections in Azerbaijan in October last year.
